Blue/Red Room (Preschool)

At Waterford Early Learning Centre, we currently provide two preschool rooms, our Red Room is our junior preschool room and caters for children aged 3-4 years and our Blue Room is our senior preschool room, catering for children aged 4-6 years who will be starting ‘big school’ the following year.

Our preschool indoor environments are rustic, natural and earthy, providing your child with a calm environment to explore, play and learn. Our qualified Early Childhood Teachers and educators provide planned experiences that encourage children’s learning and ‘school readiness skills’ through play. Our educators work as a team in conjuction with parents, families and children to ensure that our educational program reflects each individual child’s interests, strength and developmental needs. Both our junior preschoolers and our senior preschoolers, are very social and interactions between each rooms children is quite common. Therefore, our preschool children are allowed and encouraged to move freely between both the red and blue room to support the development of these meaningful relationships.

In the Blue and Red Rooms, children are provided with clear boundaries and are expected to participate in the maintanence of their classrooms. Your child will be taught to respect their class resources, help keep their classroom clean and tidy and to be responsible for their own person belongings. By participating in these daily routines and responsibilities, your child will develop a sense of pride and belonging, as well as developing self-help and school readiness skills in preparation for their transition to kindergarten.

The Australian lifestyle is all about the ‘Great Outdoors’, here at Waterford Early Learning Centre we also choose to embrace this lifestyle by follows an ‘Indoor/Outdoor’ Policy (this policy can be source in our policy folder, which is located in our foyer). Your child will have access to both our indoor and outdoor classrooms throughout the day, giving them ample opportunity to explore their natural environment and engage their curiosity. Our generous outdoor play area, will provide your child with adequate space to stretch their legs and be active. Each day with the guidance of our qualified educators, your child will be presented with the opportunity to develop their fundemental movements skills (as apart of school readiness) by following the ‘Munch & Move’ flash cards.

Children’s individual dietary requirements are considered when developing the service’s monthly menu to ensure it remains inclusive of all children who attend. When listed menu items do not meet the dietary requirements of all individual children, alternatives are offered.

Cold milk and water are offered at every meal. Children over the age of two years are offered light milk, and children aged twelve months to two years are offered full cream milk (as per the Australian Dietary Guidelines).

We provide breakfast on request, as well as a healthy and nutritious morning and afternoon tea. Children are required to bring their own packed lunch.

Our menu’s main focus is to provide your child with their recommended daily servings of both fruit and vegetables, we also develop the menu to be educational, providing opportunities for children to participate in healthy cooking experiences utilsing ingredients for our centre’s vegetable patch and pet chickens.
